Real Estate Development
Homewise builds quality houses to increase the supply of affordable homes. As the price of housing continues to rise in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico, Homewise wants to be sure houses are available for modest-income households.
Homewise believes that the long-term affordability of living in a home is critical to creating successful homeowners. In designing its homes, Homewise focuses not only on the initial cost of the house, but also the long-term cost of operating the house. With this in mind, Homewise builds energy-efficient homes with water-conserving features to keep the overall cost to the homeowner low.
In 2004, Homewise began construction on Evergreen,
an 80-unit model development in Santa Fe. All the homes in this development
will be ENERGY
STAR certified and include water- and energy-efficient appliances,
such as front-loading washing machines. Additional conservation features
in the development include orientation for solar gain; water collecting
to help water trees; and a water-conserving pond for the community
park.
